How Saponified Avocado Oil Is Made

Saponified avocado oil begins as avocado oil extracted from the flesh of ripe avocados.

To create soap, the avocado oil is combined with a carefully measured alkaline solution, typically sodium hydroxide (lye), in a process known as saponification.

During this process:

  1. Avocado oil is mixed with the lye solution.
  2. A chemical reaction occurs, converting the oil into soap.
  3. Naturally occurring glycerin is created as part of the reaction.
  4. The soap mixture is poured into molds and allowed to cure.
  5. The finished product becomes a gentle cleansing ingredient used in soap bars and other personal care products.
